Commodore G. Prakash, Indian Navy
Commodore G. Prakash did his initial schooling at Chengannur, Kerala where he was born, he later studied at Sainik School Kazhakoottam, Trivandrum before joining the National Defence Academy, at Khadakwasla, near Pune. He is presently a resident of Kandanad, near Tripunithura, Ernakulam.
Commodore G Prakash is an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) specialist aviator who was commissioned into the Navy on 01 Jul 85. He has commanded three naval warships, INS Ajay, Taragiri and Tir besides being the Senior Officer Commanding the First Training Squadron based at Kochi. The officer while commanding INS Taragiri undertook extensive tsunami relief work at Sri Lanka. He has also commanded three shore establishments, INS Mandovi - a training base at Goa, INS Dega, the naval air station at Visakhapatnam and the Maritime Warfare Centre at Kochi. His important staff appointments include Joint Director Naval Aviation Plans and Joint Director Strategy Concepts and Transformation at NHQ, Delhi, as well as being in charge of Aviation at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Defense Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and the College of Naval Warfare (CNW), Mumbai. An M Phil in Defense and Strategic Studies, he is a regular lecturer at various institutions within the armed forces and several civilian institutions on a variety of topics.
